Bebcare Hear Low EMF Baby Monitor Review

* Review updated on 2nd January 2022 to reflect a long-term use of the baby monitor. Great range and battery life.

The Bebcare Hear Digital Audio Video Baby Monitor is a very unique audio baby monitor. It comes with all the features you expect from a high-end audio baby monitor, but with the added safety of a low wireless EMF emissions design. The audio quality is very crisp, surpassing all the other radio-frequency based audio baby monitors we have tested. The Bebcare Hear has the most impressive battery life with up to 65 hours of standby time. Best of all, it utilizes a low wireless radiation technology called DSR to keep your baby safe. The Bebcare Hear comes with tons of helpful features, including room temperature tracking and breathing sensor mat. This baby monitor is the little brother of the Bebcare Motion, which we call it the best baby monitor of 2023.

This audio baby monitor is fantastic for parents who is looking for the safest baby monitor for their child. It is incredibly simple to use and requires no setup at all. The low EMF design is very unique and ingenious. If you’re comfortable with the latest smart devices and want to discover the best in high-tech baby monitor, I suggest you check our review of Owlet Smart Sock or the Nanit Baby Monitor. The VTech DM111 is a much lower end audio baby monitor but at a more affordable price.

With that said, let’s dive in our review of the Bebcare Hear digital audio baby monitor to see why this is a great option for parents looking for a reliable and simple-to-use audio baby monitor.

Our Hands-on Review of the Bebcare Hear Low EMF Audio Baby Monitor

With a ton of feature and a superb audio, battery, and range performance, the Bebcare audio is an excellent baby monitor for those who do not need the video function. It has all the bells and whistles you need for monitoring your child. Its wireless range between the parent unit and baby unit of over 2,000 feet is class leading performance. The optional Bebcare Mat ($59.00 on Bebare.com) breathing sensor mat is a must-have accessory if you want to enhance the functionality of your Bebcare monitor to include breathing detection.

There are cheaper audio baby monitors available that are less complicated to use and will do the job just as well. In the end, it really depends on what you expect from a baby monitor. The Bebcare Hear is a fantastic monitor. Its high price ($179.00 on Bebcare.com) is only justified if you want the very best baby monitoring system out there on the market.

Audio quality and Stability

The audio quality with the Bebcare Hear baby monitor is great. You receive a zero-delay crisp sound of your baby. The audio quality is not as high as a DECT technology audio baby monitor, but the great thing is that this has super low wireless power. The low EMF aspect of this Bebcare baby monitor is what really sets it apart from the competition. We will get to this point a bit more later.

We tested the connection stability of the Bebcare Hear by using it in various indoors and outdoors environment. Throughout our rigorous testing, we have never lost connection between the baby unit and the parent unit. We have tested while one unit is indoors, and the other unit is outdoors, and the two remained connected with full sound clarity at all times.

You’ll get a perfectly smooth audio streaming experience with no interference issues. The monitor uses FHSS technology to avoid interfering with any wireless signals at your home. And because this monitor does not use WiFi, that means it is not competing for internet bandwidth with your smartphone or your computer. Unlike WiFi cameras, your Netflix stream is not affected by the operations of this monitor. This is one of the key advantages of using a traditional baby monitor. And because the Bebcare Hear does not use internet connectivity, there is no way it can be hacked.

Tons of Useful Features

The Bebcare Hear baby unit has a brilliant starry night light feature. The unit projects a dim starry night light onto the ceiling. The lights changes color gradually to soothe the baby. It is a wonderful design feature that we can attest to its popularity. During our testing, our baby absolutely loves the starry night light feature. Another great design choice is that the night light is voice activated. It slowly goes away when no sound is detected in the baby's room for a period of time.

The Bebcare baby monitor comes with a choice of five music lullabies, including some Beethoven, water stream, nature sounds, and heartbeat sound. You have the option of controlling the playback remotely on the parent unit. The music volume can be adjusted as well, so you can configure it to be at just the right volume for your nursery. The sound quality of the music lullabies is acceptable, but definitely not as good as the speakers on your smartphone.

Since the Bebcare Hear is an audio baby monitor, it does not have night vision capability, but you will still be able to hear your baby during the day and night. The monitor works around the clock regardless of the time of day. If you need the ability to see your baby, I would suggest checking out the Bebcare Motion video baby monitor.

You can also set a feeding alarm on the parent unit to remind yourself it's time to feed the little one. You can configure the alarm to go off in 15-min intervals, with a maximum time duration of 6 hours. It's a nifty little feature because sometimes you may not have your phone with you all the time, but you normally have your baby monitor by your side.

You can also pair the Bebcare Hear audio baby monitor with the optional baby breathing sensor mat.

Safety And Security of Bebcare

The Bebcare Hear audio baby monitor is one of the few ultra-low EMF options on the market. The baby monitor employs a low EMF technology called DSR Digital Safe Radio. The parent unit connects to the baby unit through a wireless 865MHz low power FHSS connection. We recommend that you read our article on electromagnetic field if you want to understand what it means in terms of health and safety for your baby. The great thing about this technology is that the emissions level can be reduced to zero with the right settings.

The baby unit automatically shuts off when the baby is not crying, thus removing the need to transmit signal when there is nothing to report. This is a really ingenious design in terms of the safety of the baby monitor. In our testing, the Bebcare Hear camera produced an incredibly low emissions level when placed 6 foot away from our baby’s crib. This is the lowest average level of wireless emissions we have measured in a baby monitor. The distance of 6 feet is the suggested minimum distance for most baby monitor cameras. The further you place the camera from your baby, the less EMF they will be exposed to. Just make sure to keep the Bebcare baby unit at least 3 feet / 1.0 meter away from our baby’s bed to limit the exposure to EMF.

The Bebcare Breathing Sensor Mat Accessory

The Bebcare baby monitor can be paired with an optional breathing sensor mat accessory. What this mat does is that it continuously monitor the baby's breathing pattern. While the mat is not a medical device, it is supposed to prevent one of the most common forms of infant death called SIDS. Infant deaths occur when the baby rolls over onto his / her face, causing the baby to suffocate. An early detection mechanism such as the breathing mat can save lives.

For the updated version of Bebcare Hear, the baby breathing mat was already paired when we received the test sample. This is an improvement over the Bebcare Motion video baby monitor that we reviewed a few months ago.

The breathing mat is very sensitive to any movements. We tested brushing a light feather on the mat's surface, and it registered a reading. The proper way to place the mat is to put it underneath the baby's mattress, out of reach of the children. Because the mat is underneath the mattress, it does not affect the baby's sleep quality. We were able to simulate a situation where the baby stopped breathing by picking up the baby. In this scenario, the parent unit is able to alert our tester with a loud recurring beep, and text alert on the display screen.

Parents should not substitute the proper administration and monitoring of the baby with any baby monitoring or breathing sensor device.

Security: Bebcare Hear AUdio hacking

Because the Bebcare Hear video baby monitor uses an encrypted ultra-low power FHSS radio signal, risks of hacking and security breach are minimal. It’s impossible for someone to hack into the Bebcare baby monitor via your Wifi connection, they would need to be within signal range. They would also need to be able to decrypt the secured signal. We evaluate this to be one of the safer choices out there in terms of security. If you are someone concerned about your personal privacy and the risk of being hacked, we strongly recommend getting a traditional radio-frequency based baby monitors. Both the Bebcare Hear, Bebcare Motion, Angelcare AC517, and the Infant Optics DXR-8 are excellent choices.

Signal Strength and Wireless Range

We had no issues with the wireless range of the Bebcare baby monitor. The range is adequate for indoors usage. During our testing in a 2,500 sq feet apartment and in a 4,000 sq feet house, we managed to get full reception throughout the household. The parent unit comes equipped with an out-of-range sensor for both the camera unit and the breathing sensor mat. If you want a baby monitor that allows you to see your baby when you are fair away from home, you might want to consider the Nanit, the Owlet, or the iBaby M7 baby monitors.

Battery Life

In our testing, the battery life on the Bebcare Hear digital audio baby monitor was the best we have ever tested. It’s enough to be used unplugged for up to 65 hours. That is an incredible battery life for a baby monitor. That said, this is the maximum duration based on standby mode, so in real world use, the battery life is likely going to be a little bit worse than this. The battery takes about 2 hours to be fully charged, so you can do that once you go to bed yourself. Your monitor will start beeping when its battery is almost spent.
